RSA Tallaght Driving Test Routes

Located on Broomhill Road—sandwiched between the busy Airton and Greenhills Roads—the Tallaght Driving Test Centre is one of the most high-volume hubs in Ireland. During peak hours, it is common to see 10 driving tests launching simultaneously, creating a high-pressure environment for nervous learners.

With a current RSA pass rate of 48.33%, Tallaght’s statistics are consistent with the rest of Dublin; however, the density of industrial traffic here means that local knowledge is your greatest asset.

Practice the Full Tallaght Test (Manoeuvres Included)

Most GPS apps only show you the roads—they don’t show you the test. The Test Routes App provides the most comprehensive preparation for Tallaght, featuring 8 fully updated driving test routes (March 2026).

The Exclusive Advantage: > We are currently the only app in Ireland that includes precise GPS locations and voice commands for your Reverse Around the Corner and Turnabout.

Don’t be left guessing where the examiner will pull you over. Experience the actual test-day prompts in real-time, allowing you to practice the exact angles and kerb heights of Tallaght’s specific residential “trap zones.”

Entering the Car Park

As you enter the Tallaght Driving Test Centre car park (see photo above), slow right down. When you reach the hedge, be prepared to stop and carefully check both directions before turning left.

This is an area where learners can pick up marks before the test has even begun, so take your time and don’t rush.

Pedestrians and Tight Spaces

This area is narrow and often busy. Pedestrians regularly walk between parked cars, so drive slowly and stay alert at all times.

It’s important to show good awareness here, even before your test officially starts.

Parking Before Your Test

Before your test, reverse into a parking space if possible. This makes it much easier to move off when your test begins.

If you can, leave the first few spaces free. These are often used by drivers returning from their test, allowing them to drive straight in without needing to reverse.

Parking at the End of the Test

At the end of your test, you’ll be asked to drive straight into a space — reversing is not required.

If your positioning isn’t quite right, you can reverse and adjust. Just make sure you carry out proper observation at all times.

Common Features on the Tallaght Test Route

The Tallaght driving test route includes several features that regularly catch learners out. The main ones are speed bumps, schools, hatch markings, and roundabouts, so it’s important to be confident handling each of these.

How to Approach Speed Bumps

Speed bumps are treated as hazards during the test. Areas such as Tymon North and Kilnamanagh include a number of speed bumps of varying sizes.

Each time you approach one, check your mirrors, slow down early, and then smoothly build your speed back up afterwards.

Depending on the size of the bump and how your car responds, 2nd or 3rd gear is usually best — never 4th.

Slow down gently as you approach the bump. Ease off the brake slightly before reaching it, allow the car to roll over smoothly, and begin accelerating again once you are clear.

Hitting speed bumps too fast is one of the most common reasons learners pick up a Grade 2 fault on the Tallaght test route.

Driving Near Schools

There are several schools along the route, particularly around Tymon North and Fettercairn, so extra care is required — especially during opening and closing times.

Always be alert for children stepping out unexpectedly and be ready to reduce your speed. This is an area where examiners pay close attention to your awareness.

Lane Changes and Observation

Lane changes are another area where learners often lose marks.

Make sure you follow the Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed, Look routine properly. Check your mirrors early, signal in good time, position the car correctly, and take a final glance at your blind spot just before moving.

Right Turns Near Tallaght Village

Turning right near Tallaght Village, particularly onto Greenhills Road, frequently causes difficulties for learners. A right-turn lane is provided, but it often becomes congested.

This is where good positioning and patience are important — rushing this can easily lead to a fault.

Using Hatch Markings Correctly

Do not drive through hatch markings unless road markings clearly allow it. Entering them incorrectly can result in a Grade 2 fault.

Following the Rules of the Road

You will never receive a fault for following the Rules of the Road.

Move into the right-hand lane only when permitted, usually after the directional arrow. Where possible, keep right to clearly show your intention. This also allows traffic travelling straight or turning left towards the N81 to pass safely.

How Tallaght Driving Test Routes Work

There isn’t one fixed driving test route in Tallaght.

Instead, examiners use a number of similar routes that follow the same road networks and areas. While the exact route can vary from test to test, you’ll find that the same roads, estates, and junctions are used repeatedly.

Typically, a test will involve leaving the centre and being brought through a mix of main roads such as Belgard Road and Airton Road, along with quieter residential areas like Tymon North and Kilnamanagh. Examiners will often loop through these areas to assess different aspects of your driving, including positioning, observation, and control.

Because of this, once you’ve driven a few of these routes, you’ll start to recognise the patterns. What feels unpredictable at first becomes much more familiar.

That’s why practising in the same areas makes such a difference — familiarity reduces stress and allows you to focus on your driving, rather than worrying about roads you don’t recognise.

Tallaght Roundabouts

Roundabouts in Tallaght – What to Watch For

Roundabouts are one of the main areas where learners lose marks in the Tallaght driving test.

The routes around Tallaght include a number of busy roundabouts, particularly around Belgard Road and Tallaght Hospital. These are used to assess how well you handle lane positioning, signalling, and decision-making under pressure.

A common issue is choosing the wrong lane on approach or drifting out of position while going around the roundabout. Examiners are looking for clear, confident positioning and good awareness of other road users at all times. For example, when approaching the roundabout at Tallaght Hospital from Belgard Road, going straight requires you to use the right-hand lane — something that often catches learners out.

You’ll also need to show good judgement — knowing when it’s safe to enter without hesitating too much, while still giving way correctly. Being overly cautious can result in marks just as much as taking a risk. The roundabouts around The Square and the N81 can become very busy, so you need to show confidence and good decision-making to navigate them smoothly.

Typical mistakes at roundabouts include:

  • Incorrect lane choice on approach
  • Approaching too fast, limiting proper observation
  • Missing mirror checks before entering and exiting
  • Hesitating when it is safe to proceed
  • Not signalling correctly

Once you become familiar with the roundabouts used in the Tallaght routes, they become much easier to handle. Like most parts of the test, it’s not just about knowing the rules — it’s about recognising the situation early and reacting naturally.

Practising these roundabouts in advance will build confidence and make them far less intimidating on the day of your test.
